ፊደል (Fidäl)
Fidel Center of Academy (ኣካዳሚ ቤተ ፊደል) is a global online language academy for Gəʿəz, Təgrəňňa, and Amharic. To satisfy the majority’s interest, each language course has three independent levels: introductory, intermediate, and advanced. To back up a background understanding, a lesson on ‘East African Culture and History’ in connection to Sabaic, Greek, and related linguistic and cultural themes is given at the beginning of each course. Moreover, ‘East African Culture and History’ is also given as an independent course in our academy. Therefore, potentially, we have a total of 10 courses.
Our courses in our academy are aimed at supporting:
- Language proficiency in the four skills (listening, reading, speaking, and writing), and vocabulary. This helps language fluency.
- Research studies in connection to East-African (especially Ethiopia and Eritrea) language and linguistics, philology and ancient manuscript culture, history, anthropology, archaeology, etc.
- Understanding the history and culture of the region.
Teaching Hours and Class Room Size - Hours per week for each course: 2 hours
- Classroom size for each course: minimum 7 and maximum 25 students
Instruction
Course Duration
- One course (be it introductory, intermediate, or advanced) is 4 months duration.
- One language course completion of the 3 course will take: 12 months. A candidate is not forced to complete the 3 courses, but the introductory course is a pre-requisite for the intermediate; and the intermediate for the advanced course unless they have already completed the preliminary courses in other institutions.
- Someone can take more than one course at a time, but not the course levels in the same language course (For example some one cant take “Introductory Ge’ez” and “Intermediate Ge’ez” at a time.)
Instructors
• Dr. Hagos Abrha Abay, a Gə’əz philologist from the University of Toronto is the principal instructor.
• Our additional instructors will be professionally certified in the theme at the Ph.D. level.
Curriculum and Course Materials
• Syllabus and respective course materials are given after the enrolment. The materials will be contextualized o the level, and medium of instruction of the students.
Payments
• Everyone can start class after the payment. Registration fee for adults is 42.00 USD and 31.00 USD for the kids. The monthly subscription/payments per course are 79 USD for adults and 59 USD for kids. Thus to register, candidates need to pay both the registration fee and the first monthly subscription: 121.00 USD for adults and 90.00 USD for kids. After that, every month, they need to pay only their monthly subscriptions. The students are not expected extra payment for materials and accessing our future online library.
• Those who paid full payment for the course duration (4 months) will have 7% discounts. If so, communicate us through betefidel21@gmail.com, and we will handle it.
• People who enrol for more than one course will also have a 15% discount.
Certificate
Finally, there will be an official certificate with the level of performance.
